What a great question!

I may not be the best person to ask, but I’ll definitely do my best.

1. You don’t necessarily have to go to fashion school.

I recently just graduated from FIDM, and although I have no regrets, I feel as though not everyone needs to go that route. I know a bunch of people (designers, photographers, stylists, etc.) that are extremely successful due to their perseverance and love for their art/work.

2. Study Up

The fashion industry is HUGE and forever changing. There are so many different types of jobs you can pursue or even jump around to. I’m not even quite sure about what I want to do for the rest of my life, but in this industry that’s okay! Researching different careers and trying things out allows you to not only find out what clientele you’re targeting, but also enables you to find out about yourself and your own personal brand.

3. Have confidence in your work as well as yourself

Not everyone is going to like your finished product, and that may either mean you have to go back to the drawing board or you can stick to it. Either way you shouldn’t doubt yourself. You are where you are for a reason and you should be confident in our vision. Who else would know it better than yourself? But always be open to constructive criticism.
